After the success of the popular RK5 Fly Rig, Tech 21 now release the upgraded second iteration. Designed in collaboration with Richie Kotzen (Mr. Big, Poison, The Winery Dogs), this multi-effects pedal has received a serious update and has been brought up to speed to meet the contemporary demands of the master guitarist for increased flexibility on stage. The foundation sound is shaped by Tech 21's fully analogue Samsamp technology with active 3-band EQ while thanks to the addition of an XLR output with ground lift, this signature Fly Rig V2 can be simply plugged into a stage box or audio interface. Naturally, it's still possible to directly hook this multi-effects pedal up to your amp to play at lower volumes when needed.

The RK5 V2: Fuzzy Overdrive & Up To 12 dB Boost

For extra polished cleans or crunch with a bit of additional kick, the RK5 is naturally fitted with OMG Richie Kotzen overdrive and if that's still not quite enough for you, simply press the button above the footswitch to throw a little fuzz-like vibe on top. There's a separate boost function that you can use if you have trouble punching through the mix while with the level pot, you can further boost the signal with up to 12 dBs. Finishing the controls section is the Comp button which when pressed, adds transparent compression based on analogue FET technology.

Room Reverb, Tape Echo Delay and the Sound of a Rotating Speaker

Much like its predecessor, the RK5 Fly Rig V2 serves up reverb and delay effects. The reverb is part of the aforementioned Samsamp section and can be intuitively controlled via a single rotary knob to set the preferred amount of reverb and determine the size of the room. If you make sure that prior to doing that you keep the footswitch engaged for a short moment, the sound gets muted and you give yourself the opportunity to quickly check the tuning of your guitar using the built-in tuner. For a range of classic echo sounds, Tech 21 and Richie Kotzen have chosen for a separately adjustable delay. Next to a Drift switch for random modulation settings, you can use the delay's roto knob to dial in a leslie-speaker effect or tremolo-like guitar sound using that same Drift switch.
